Women In Technology Survey Report

Our June 30, 2009 publication of the ASTTBC WiT Survey Report was a great success! We would like to thank Science World for the wonderful venue and TECC (Technology Education and Careers Council) for sharing their agenda time with us. The attendees, about 30 in all, were representatives from industry, education and other associations, all of whom are very interested in increasing the number of women in technology careers. Women are an untapped resource group. Only 9% of ASTTBC’s 9000+ technology professionals are female. The WiT Survey Report identifies the challenges and issues that Women in Technology face as they choose a career in technology, as they prepare to enter the workforce and as they develop their technology careers. Please read this report to get more detail on survey findings, observations and recommendations.

On July 8th, 2009 BIV (Business in Vancouver) featured an article on women breaking through technology sector’s glass ceiling, referencing ASTTBC Women in Technology Survey outcomes.

At the close of the June 30 publication event, ASTTBC launched the new WiT Forum. Please visit us and join the forum at:  http://wit.asttbc.org/smf/ This forum offers the opportunity for all to join in on discussions regarding mentorship, women in the workplace, education and other important topics. Please share this site with your peers, students, immigrating professionals, friends, family, etc.

In the fall ASTTBC plans to host a Roundtable event for all key stakeholders to review and discuss the survey conclusions and recommendations and to establish "action Items' to address some of the key recommendations. The ASTTBC WiT Panel will be working over the summer to address the next key recommendation for ASTTBC resulting from the Survey Report. Stay tuned....

I encourage all of you to get involved as we launch support tools for Women In Technology.
